<lb>tāpi nātorthāṃtarabhāvamanubhavati puṃsaḥ saṃvedanāvaraṇavīryāṃtarāyalakṣaṇapāpamalāpagamavirahe kvacidupalabdhilakṣaṇa-

<lb>prāptatānupalabdheḥ, nayanonmīlanādikarmaṇo dṛśyādṛśyayoḥ sādhāraṇatvāt pradyotādikaraṇasākalyavat | etena

<lb>nayanonmīlanādikarmasānnikarṣasahakāriviṣayagataṃ copalabhyatvasāmānyamiti pratyākhyātaṃ tatsannidhāne satya-

<lb>nnasyāgnerauṣṇyavyapadeśavat | tena jñānātmā jñānātmanā jñeyaṃ jānāti iti vyavahārasya pratītisiddhatvāt | yathā ca

<lb>nājñānena iṃdriyasannikarṣaliṃgaśabdādinā sādhanasya vyabhicāraḥ | nāpi vyatirekāsiddhiḥ samyagjñānatvasya

<lb>sādhyasya nivṛttau pramāṇatvasya sādhanasya paṭādau vinivṛttiviniścayāt | kevalavyatirekiṇo'pi sādhanasya

<lb>samarthanāt | tataḥ sūktaṃ samyagjñānameva pramāṇamajñānasya pramāṇatvāyogānmithyājñānavaditi |

<lb><p>kiṃ punaḥ samyagjñānaṃ ? abhidhīyate–svārthavyavasāyātmakaṃ samyagjñānaṃ samyagjñānatvāt | yattu na svārthavyavasāyā-

<lb>tmakaṃ tanna samyagjñānaṃ yathā saṃśayaviparyāsānadhyavasāyāḥ | samyagjñānaṃ ca vivādāpannaṃ tasmātsvārthavyavasāyātmakamiti

<lb>suniścitānyathānupapattiniyamaniścayalakṣaṇo hetuḥ prasiddha eva samyagavabodhādīnāṃ sādhyadharmiṇi sadbhāvāt | sva-

<lb>saṃvedaneṃdriyamanoyogipratyakṣaiḥ samyagjñānaiḥ–avyavasāyātmakairvyabhicārī hetuḥ ? iti svamanorathamātraṃ saugatasya teṣāṃ

<lb>samyagjñānatvavirodhāt | samyagjñānatvaṃ hyavisaṃvādakatvena vyāptaṃ tadabhāve tadasaṃbhavāt | tadapi pravartakatvena vyāptaṃ

<lb>tadabhāve tadasaṃbhavāt | tadapyarthaprāpakatvena arthaprāpakasyāvisaṃvaditvāt | nirviṣayajñānavat | tadapi pravarta-

<lb>katvena vyāptaṃ apravartakasyārthāpratyāyakatvāt | tadvat pravartakatvamapi viśvaviṣayopadarśakatvena vyāptaṃ svaviṣayamu-

<lb>pravartakamucyate arthaprāpakaṃ ca ityavisaṃvādakaṃ samyagvedakaṃ pramāṇaṃ tadviparītasya mithyājñānatvaprasiddheḥ saṃśaya-

<lb>vaditi dharmottaramataṃ | tatrāvyavasāyātmakasya caturvidhasyāpi samakṣasya samyagvedanatvaṃ na vyavatiṣṭhate tasya

<lb>svaviṣayopadarśakatvā'siddheḥ | tatsiddhau vā nīlādāviva kṣaṇakṣayādāvapi tadupadarśakatvaprasakteḥ | tato yada-

<lb>vyavasāyātmakaṃ jñānaṃ na tatsvaviṣayopadarśakaṃ yathā gacchataḥ tṛṇasparśasaṃvedanaṃ | adhyavasāyi prasiddhamavyavasāyātmakaṃ

<lb>ca saugatābhimatadarśanamiti vyāpakānupalabdhiḥ siddhā | vyavasāyātmakasya vyāpakasyābhāve tadvyāpyatvasya

<lb>dṛśyāgocaratvāt | tadubhayaviṣayaṃ jñānāṃtaraṃ tu nirvikalpakaṃ vikalpātmakaṃ vā ? na tāvannirvikalpakaṃ tasya dṛśya

<lb>tato na vyavasāyo vastūpadarśakaḥ syāt | nāpi tadupajananāddarśanaṃ svaviṣayavastūpadarśakaṃ yogipratyakṣasya vidhū-

<lb>takalpanājālasya sarvadā vastuvikalpājanakatvāt tadupadarśakatvavirodhāt | svasaṃvedanamapi na tasya svarūpopa-

<lb>kasya nārthaprāptinimittatvaṃ | tadasaṃbhave ca nāvisaṃvādakatvaṃ tadvirahe ca na samyagjñānatvaṃ svasaṃvedaneṃdriyamano

<lb>yogijñānānāmiti na tairvyabhicāraḥ sādhanasya saṃbhavati |

<lb><p>syānmataṃ––arthasāmarthyādutpatti–arthasārūpyaṃ ca darśanasya svaviṣayopadarśakatvaṃ tacca sakalasamakṣaveda-

<lb>nānāmavyavasāyātmakatve'pi saṃbhavatpravartakatvamarthaprāpakatvamavisaṃvādakatvaṃ samyagjñānalakṣaṇamiti taiḥ samīcī-

<lb>nairjñānairvyabhicāra eva hetoriti ? tadapi durghaṭameva kṣaṇakṣayādāvapi tadupadeśakatvaprasaṃgāt | tatrākṣaṇika-

<lb>tvādisamāropānupraveśādayoginaḥ pratipatturnopadeśakatvamavatiṣṭhate | yoginastu samāropāsaṃbhavāt kṣaṇakṣayādā-

<lb>vapi darśanaṃ tadupadeśakameveti samādhānamapi na dhīmaddhṛtikaraṃ nīlādāvapyayoginastadviparītasamāropaprasakteḥ |

<lb>kathamanyathā viruddhadharmādhyāsāttaddarśanabhedo na bhāvet? na hi –abhinnamekadarśanaṃ kvacitsamāropākrāṃtaṃ kvacinneti

<lb>vaktuṃ yuktaṃ | tato yadyatra viparītasamāropaviruddhaṃ tattatra niścāyātmakaṃ yathānumeye'rthe'numānajñānaṃ | viparītasamāro-

<lb>paviruddhaṃ ca nīlādau darśanamiti vyavasāyātmakameva buddhyāmahe | niścayahetutvāddarśanaṃ nīlādau viparītasamā-

<lb>viparītasamāropasya prasaṃgāt tena tasyāvirodhāt | pareṣāṃ tu tasyāpi niścayātmakatvāttena virodhaḥ siddha eva |

<lb>bhyupagamanīyatvāt iti ? tadapi phalguprāyaṃ bhūyodarśanalakṣaṇasyābhyāsasya kṣaṇakṣayādau sutarāṃ sadbhāvāt |

<lb>punapunarvikalpotpādarūpasya cābhyāsasya paraṃ pratyasiddhatvāt tatraiva vivadāt | kṣaṇikākṣaṇikavicāraṇāyāṃ kṣaṇi-

<lb>kaprakaraṇasyāpi bhāvāt | buddhipāṭavaṃ tu nīlādau kṣaṇakṣayādau ca samānaṃ taddarśanasyānaṃśatvāt | tatra pāṭavā-

<lb>pāṭavayorbhede tadbuddherapi bhedāpatteḥ, viruddhadharmādhyāsāt | tathāvidhatadvāsanākhyakarmavaśādbuddheḥ paṭavāpāṭave syātāṃ,

<lb>ityapyanenāpāstaṃ tatkarmasadbhāvayorapi viruddhadharmayoranaṃśabuddhāvekasyāmasaṃbhavāt | yatpunararthitvaṃ jijñāsitatvaṃ

<lb>tatkṣaṇikavādinaḥ kṣaṇikatve'styeva nīlādivat | yatpunarabhilaṣitṛtvamarthitvaṃ tanna vyavasāyajanananibaṃdhanaṃ

<lb>kvacidanabhilaṣite'pi vastuni kasya cidudāsīnasya smaraṇapratīteḥ––iti nābhyāsādibhyaḥ kvacideva saṃskāra-

<lb>jananaṃ––anaṃśajñānajñeyavādino ghaṭate | parasya tu bahiraṃtaranekātmakatattvavādino na kiṃcidanupapannaṃ sarvathai-

<lb>katra vyavasāyāvyavasāyayoḥ, avāyānavāyākhyayoḥ, saṃskārāsaṃskārayoḥ, dhāraṇetarābhidhānayoḥ, smaraṇāsmaraṇa-

<lb>yoścānabhyupagamāt | tadbhedātkathaṃcidbodhabodhyayorbhedaprasiddheḥ |

<lb><p>saugatasyāpi vyāvṛttibhedādbhedopagamādadoṣoyaṃ tathāhi–nīlatvamanīlatvavyāvṛttiḥ,kṣāṇikatvamakṣaṇikatvavyā-

<lb>vṛttirucyate tatrānīlavyāvṛttau nīlavyavasāyastadvāsanāprabodhādutpanno na punarakṣaṇikavyāvṛttau kṣaṇikavyavasāya-

<lb>statra tadvāsanāprabodhābhāvāt | na cānayorvyāvṛttyorabhedaḥ saṃbhavati vyāvartyamānayorabhedaprasaṃgāt | na ca tadbhedādva-

<lb>stuno bhedaḥ tasya niraṃśatvāt anyathā anavasthāprasaṃgāt iti pare manyaṃte tepi na satyavādinaḥ svabhāvabhedābhābave

<lb>vastuno vyāvṛttibhedāsaṃbhavāt | nīlasvalakṣaṇaṃ hi yena svabhāvenānīlādvyāvṛttaṃ tainaiva yadyakṣaṇikādvyāvarteta

<lb>tadā nīlākṣaṇikayorekatvāpattestadvyāvṛttyorekatvaprasaṃgaḥ | svabhāvāṃtareṇa tattato vyāvṛttamiti vacane tu siddhaḥ

<lb>svalakṣasya svabhāvabhedaḥ kathaṃ nirākriyate ? | yadi punaḥ svabhāvabhedo'pi vastuno tatsvabhāvavyāvṛttyā

<lb>kalpita eveti mataṃ ? tadā parikalpitasvabhāvāṃtarakalpanāyāmanavasthānuṣajyeta | tathāhi–anīlasvabhāvā-

<lb>nyavyāvṛttirapi svabhāvāṃtareṇa anyavyāvṛttirūpeṇa vaktavyā | sāpi tadanyavyāvṛttisvabhāvāṃtareṇa tathāvidhe-

<lb>neti na kvacid vyavatiṣṭhate |

<lb><p>kaścidāha––tata eva sakalavikalpavāggocarātītaṃ vastu vikalpaśabdānāṃ viṣayasyānyavyāvṛtti-

<lb>rūpasya anādyavidyopakalpitasya sarvathā vicārā 'sahatvāt | vicārasahatve vā tadavastutvavirodhāt iti

<lb>sopi na samyagvādī darśanaviṣayasyāpyavastutvaprasaṃgāt tasyāpi śabdavikalpaviṣayavat vicārāsahatvāviro-

<lb>dhāt | tathāhi––nīlasvalakṣaṇaṃ sugatetaraṃjanadarśanaviṣayatāmupagacchat kimekena svabhāvena nānāsvabhāvena

<lb>vā dṛśyaṃ syāt ? tadyadyekena svabhāvena tadā yadeva sugatadṛśyatvaṃ tadevetarajanadṛśyatvamityāyātaṃ aśeṣasya

<lb>jagataḥ sugatatvaṃ | yaccetarajanadṛśyatvaṃ tadeva sugatadṛśyatvamiti sakalasya sugatasyetarajanatvāpatteḥ sugata-

<lb>rahitamakhilaṃ syāt | athaitasmāddoṣādvibhyatā nānāsvabhāvena sugatetarajanadṛśyatvaṃ pratipādyate tadā nīla-

<lb>svalakṣaṇasya dṛśyasvabhāvabhedaḥ kathamapahnuyeta ? na ca dṛśyaṃ rūpamanekaṃ kalpitamiti śakyaṃ vaktuṃ dṛśyasya

<lb>kalpitatvavirodhāt | atha manyethāḥ svalakṣaṇasya dṛśyatvaṃ svākārārpakatvavyāvṛttirūpaṃ nānādṛṣṭṝvyapekṣayā'nekaṃ

<lb>ghaṭāmaṭatyeva tadabhāve nānādṛṣṭadarśanaviṣayatāṃ svalakṣaṇaṃ nāskaṃdet | na ca paramārthato darśanaṃ dṛśyaviṣayaṃ

<lb>sarvajñānāṃ svarūpamātraparyavasitatvāt | upacārādeva bahirviṣayatāvyavahārāt iti tadapyasat vastunaḥ svā-

<lb>kārārpakatvasyāpi pūrvaparyanuyogānatikramāt | taddhi svalakṣaṇaṃ yena svabhāvena sugatadarśanāya svākārama-

<lb>rpayati tenaivetarajanadarśanāya svabhāvāṃtareṇa vā ? yadi tenaiva tadā tadeva sugatetarajanadarśanaikatvamāpanīpa-

<lb>dyate tathā ca sarvasya sugatatvaṃ itarajanatvaṃ vā durnivāratāmācanīskaṃdyate | svabhāvāṃtareṇa svākārārpakatve

<lb>sa eva vāstavaḥ svabhāvabhedaḥ svalakṣaṇasyākṣuṇṇtayā kathaṃ pratikṣipyate ? | yatpunaḥ svākārārpakatvamapi na

<lb>vastunaḥ paramārthapathaprasthāṃyi samavasthāpyate svarūpamātraviṣayatvāt sakalasaṃvedanānāmiti mataṃ tadapi

<lb>durupapādameva teṣāṃ vaiyarthyaprasagāṃt | jñānaṃ hi jñeyaprasiddhyarthaṃ prekṣāvatāmanviṣyate prakāśyaprasiddhyarthaṃ pradīpā-

<lb>divat | na punaḥ svarūpaprasiddhyarthaṃ pradīpavadeveti | bahirarthāviṣayatve sakalasaṃvedanānāṃ kathamiva vaiyarthyaṃ

<lb>na syāt ? nirviṣayasvapnādisaṃvedanānāmapi sārthakatvaprasaṃgāt svarūpaprakāśanasya prayojanasya sarvatra

<lb>bhāvāt | kiṃ ca sugatasaṃvedanasyāpi svarūpamātraparyavasitāyāṃ kathamiva sugataḥ sarvadarśīṣyate pṛthagjanavat |

<lb>pṛthagjano vā kathaṃ na sarvadarśī sugatavadanumanyeta ? svarūpamātraparyavasitāyāḥ tatsaṃvedane'pi sadbhāvāt |

<lb>yadi punarvāstavatvaṃ sakalaveditvaṃ tāthāgatasyorarīkriyate saṃvṛttyā tasya vyavahāribhiḥ saṃvyavaharaṇāt

<lb>tadavyaharaṇe tadvacanasya satyatāvyavahārānupapatteḥ sakalajñānarahitapuruṣopadeśādvipralaṃbhanaśaṃkanaprasaṃgāt |

<lb>nānuṣaṃgāt | sakalapadārthebhyaḥ sugatasya saṃvedanodayāt sakalārthajñatā yuktā kalpayituṃ na punaritara-

<lb>janasya pratiniyatapadārthādeva tadvedanotpatteriti cet ? na sugatajñānasyāṃpi sakalapadārthajanyatvāsiddheḥ |

<lb>samasamayavartipadārthajanyatvāsaṃbhavāt | yadi punaranādyatītapadārthebhyo bhaviṣyadanaṃtārthebhyaḥ sāṃpratikārthe-

<lb>bhyaśca sakalebhyaḥ sugatasaṃvedanasyotpattiḥ akhilāvidyātṛṣṇāvināśādupapadyata eva asmadādisaṃveda-

<lb>nādviśiṣṭatvāttasyeti mataṃ ? tadā kimekena svabhāvena kālatrayavartipadārthaiḥ sugatavijñānamutpadyate

<lb>nānāsvabhāvairvā ? yadyekena svabhāvena, ekenārthena sugatajñānamupajanyate tenaiva sakalapadārthaiḥ tadā

<lb>sakalapadārthānāmekarūpatāpattiḥ | sugatavijñānasya vā tadekapadārthajanyatvasiddhiriti netarajana-

<lb>saṃvedanāttasya viśeṣaḥ siddhyet | athānyena svabhāvenaikārthaḥ sugatajñānamupajanayati padārthāṃtarāṇi tu svabhāvāṃ-

<lb>taraistadupajanayaṃti iti matirbhavatāṃ tarhi sugatajñānamanaṃtasvabhāvamekamāyātaṃ | tadvatsakalaṃ vastu kathamanaṃtātma-

<lb>katāṃ na svīkuryāditi ciṃtanīyaṃ | ekasyanekasvabhāvatvavirodhānnaikamanekātmakamiti cet ? kathamidānīṃ

<lb>sugatavijñānamekapadārthajanyaṃ nānārūpatāṃ vibharti ? | yadi punaratajjanyarūpavyāvṛttyā tajjanyarūpaparikalpanānna

<lb>tattvataḥ sugatasaṃvedanamanekarūpatākrāṃtamityākūtaṃ ? tadā na paramārthataḥ suddhodanitanayavijñānamakhilapadārtha-

<lb>janyaṃ, iti kutaḥ pṛthagjanasaṃvedanādasya viśeṣaḥ samavatiṣṭhate ? | tataḥ sugatavijñānadṛśyatāmitarajanavijñānaviṣa-

<lb>yatāṃ ca ekasya nīlādisvalakṣaṇasyānekākārāmapi svayamurarīkurvatā nīlasvalakṣaṇakādirūpatāpi dṛśyādṛśya-

<lb>tvalakṣaṇā svīkartavyā, tathā ca nīlādau darśanamanyadvyavasāyātmakaṃ saṃskārasmaraṇakāraṇaṃ tadviparīdarśanādava-

<lb>boddhavyaṃ, iti na pratyakṣaprasiddhaṃ nirvyavasāyātmakatvamadhyakṣajñānasya | nāpyanumānaprasiddhaṃ godarśanasamaye'śvaka-

<lb>lpanāvat godarśanasyāpi vyavasāyātmakatvopapatteḥ | punarvikalpayataḥ tadanusmaraṇasyānyathānupapatteḥ |

<lb>tathā hi yannirvyavasāyātmakaṃ jñānaṃ tannottarakālamanusmaraṇajananasamarthaṃ yathā parābhimataṃ svargaprāpaṇaśaktyādi-

<lb>darśanaṃ tathā cāśvavikalpakāle godarśanamiti tadanusmaraṇajananasamarthaṃ na syāt bhavati ca punarvikalpayata-

<lb>stadanusmaraṇaṃ tasmādvyavasāyātmakamiti niścayaḥ | tadevaṃ vyavasāyātmakatve sādhye samyagjñānaṃ sādhanaṃ

<lb>na vyabhicarati kasya cidapi samyagjñānasyāvyavasāyātmakatvapramāṇabādhitatvāditi sthitaṃ |

<lb><p>ye tvāhuḥ––svārthavyavasāyātmakatve sādhye samyagjñānasya hetorna prayojakatvaṃ sarvasya samyagjñānasyā-

<lb>rthavyavasāyayamaṃtaraṇaiva samyagjñānatvasiddheḥ | tathā hi––vivādādhyāsitaṃ samyagjñānaṃ nārthavyavasāyātmakaṃ

<lb>jñānatvāt, svavyavasāyātmakatvāt | yadjñānaṃ svavyavasāyātmakaṃ vā tannārthavyavasāyātmakaṃ yathā svapnādijñānaṃ tathā

<lb>ca vipadāvannaṃ jñānaṃ jinapatimatānusāribhaḥ, abhyanujñātaṃ tasmānnārthavyavasāyātmakamiti tepi na prātīti-

<lb>tadarthe pravṛttyanyathānupapatteḥ | mithyājñānādapyarthe pravṛttidarśanādanekāṃtaḥ ? iti cenna tasyāḥ pravṛttyābhāsa-

<lb>tvāt, vyavasitārthaprāptinimittatvābhāvāt | vyavasitamarthaṃ prāpayituṃ samarthā hi saṃyak pravṛttiḥ sā ca mithyā-

<lb>jñānānnopapadyata iti na vyabhicāraḥ | yaccārthavyavasāyātmakatvanirākaraṇapravaṇamanumānaṃ tatsvārthaṃ vyavasyati vā

<lb>na vā ? prathamavikalpe tenaivānaikāṃtikaṃ sādhanamāpadyeta tasya jñānatve svavyavasāyātmakatve'pi svasādhyārtha-

<lb>vyavasāyātmakatvasiddheḥ | dvitīyavikalpe'pi nāto'numānādiṣṭasiddhiḥ svasādhyārthavyavasāyātmakatvāt anu-

<lb>mānābhāsavat | tataḥ kiṃ bahunā sarvasya kiṃcidiṣṭaṃ sādhayataḥ svayamaniṣṭaṃ vā dūṣayataḥ kutaścitpramāṇāt

<lb>tasyārthavyavasāyātmakatvābhyanujñānamavaśyaṃbhāvi tasyārthāvyavasāyātmakatve sveṣṭāniṣṭasādhanadūṣaṇānupapatteḥ | para-

<lb><p>syānmataṃ na bahirarthāḥ paramārthataḥ saṃti tatpratyayānāṃ nirālaṃbanatvāt svapnapratyayavat satānāṃtaravi-

<lb>jñānānāmapi asattvāt | tatra svarūpamātravyavasāyātmakameva vijñānamiti tadapyasāraṃ tathāhi––sarvapratya-

<lb>yānāṃ nirālaṃbanatvaṃ na tāvatpratyakṣataḥ siddhyati tasya tadviṣayatvāt | vivādāpannāḥ pratyayā nirālaṃbanā eva

<lb>pratyayatvāt svapneṃdrijālādivaditi anumānānnirālaṃvanatvasiddhiṃrityapi mithyā svasaṃtānapratyayena vyabhicārāt |

<lb>tasyāpi saṃtānāṃtarapratyayavatpakṣīkaraṇe kimidamanumānajñānaṃ svasādhyārthālaṃbanaṃ nirālaṃbanaṃ vā ? prathamapakṣe tenaivā-

<lb>naikāṃtikatvaṃ pratyayatvaṃ | dvitīyakalpanāyāṃ nāto nirālaṃbanatvasiddhiḥ | parabrahmasvarūpasiddhireva sakalabhedapratyayānāṃ

<lb>nirālaṃbanatvasiddhiḥ? ityapi na vyavatiṣṭhate parabrahmaṇa evāprasiddheḥ | taddhi svato vā siddhyet parato vā ?

<lb>na tāvatsvata eva vipratipattyabhāvaprasaṃgāt | parataścedanumānādāgamādvā ? yadyanumānāt kimatrānumānamityabhi-

<lb>dhīyatāṃ | vivādāpanno'rthaḥ pratibhāsāṃtaḥ praviṣṭa eva pratibhāsamānatvāt | yo yaḥ pratibhāsamānaḥ sa sa prati-

<lb>bhāsāṃtaḥ praviṣṭa eva dṛṣṭaḥ yathā pratibhāsasyātmā pratibhāsamānaśca sakalo'rthaścetanācetanātmako vivādāpannaḥ

<lb>tasmātpratibhāsāṃtaḥpraviṣṭha evetyanumānaṃ na samyak dharmi-hetu-dṛṣṭāṃtānāṃ pratibhāsāṃtaḥpraviṣṭatve sādhyāṃtaḥpāti-

<lb>tvena anumānotthānāyogāt | pratibhāsāṃtaḥ praviṣṭatvābhāve taireveti hetorvyabhicārāt | yadi punaranādyavi-

<lb>dyāvāsanāvalāddharmi-hetu-dṛṣṭāṃtāḥ pratibhāsabahirbhūtā iva niścīyaṃte pratipādyaprātipādakasabhyasabhāpatijanavat |

<lb>tato'numānamapi saṃbhavatyeva sakalānādyavidyāvilāsavilaye tu pratibhāsāṃtaḥpraviṣṭamakhilaṃ pratibhāsameveti vipra-

<lb>tipattyasaṃbhavāt | pratipādyapratipādakabhāvābhāvāt sādhyasādhanabhāvānupapatterna kiṃcidanumānopanyāsaphalaṃ | sva-

<lb>yamanubhūyamāne parabrahmaṇi pratibhāsātmani deśakālākāravacchinnasvarūpe nirvyabhicāre sakalakālāvasthāvyāpi-

<lb>ni–anumānāprayogāt iti samabhidhīyate tadā sāpyanādyavidyā yadi pratibhāsāṃtaḥpraviṣṭā tadāvidyaivā kathamasaṃtaṃ

<lb>dharmidṛṣṭāṃtādibhedamupadarśayet | atha pratibhāsabahirbhūtāstadā sā'pratibhāsamānā pratibhāsamānā vā ? na tāva-

<lb>dapratibhāsamānā bhede pratibhāsarūpatvāt tasyāḥ | pratibhāsamānā cet tayaiva hetorvyabhicāraḥ pratibhāsa-

<lb>bahirbhūtatve'pi tasyāḥ pratibhāsamānatvāt |

<lb><p>syādākūtaṃ––na pratibhāsamānā nāpratibhāsamānā na pratibhāsabahirbhūtā nāpi pratibhāsāṃtaḥpraviṣṭā

<lb>naika nacānekā na nityā nāpyanityā na vyabhicāriṇī nāpyavyabhicāriṇī sarvathā vicāryamāṇāyogāt |

<lb>sakalavicārātikrāṃtasvarūpaiva rūpāṃtarābhāvāt avidyayā nīrūpatālakṣaṇatvāt iti | tadetadapyavidyāvi-

<lb>jṛṃbhitameva tathāvidhanīrūpatāsvabhāvāyāḥ kena cidavidyāyāḥ kathaṃcidapratibhāsamānāyāḥ vaktumaśakteḥ |

<lb>pratimāsamānāyāstu tathāvacane kathamasau sarvathā nīrūpā syāt ? yena svarūpeṇa yaḥ pratibhāsate tasyaiva

<lb>nāyāṃ sakalavicārātikrāṃtatayā vicārānatikrāṃtatvābhgupagamavyāghātaḥ | dvitīyakalpanāyāṃ na sakalavicārā-

<lb>tikrāṃtatā vyavatiṣṭhate sakalavicārātikrāṃtatāyāmapi tasyāstayā vyavasthāne sarvathaikānekarūpatāyā api

<lb>vyavasathānaprasaṃgāt | tasmātsatsvabhāvaivāvidyābhyupagaṃtavyā vidyāvat | tathā ca vidyā'vidyādvaitaprasiddheḥ

<lb>kutaḥ paramabrahmaṇo'numānātsiddhiḥ ? | etenopaniṣadvākyātparamapuruṣasiddhiḥ pratyākhyātā | sarvaṃ vai khalvidaṃ

<lb>brahmetyādivākyasya paramātmanoṃ'rthāṃtarabhāve dvaitaprasakteraviśeṣāt | tasyānādyavidyātmakatve'pi pūrvoditadūṣaṇa-

<lb>prasaṃgāt tato na paramapuruṣādvaitasiddhiḥ svataḥ parato vā yena samyagjñānaṃ svavyavasāyātmakameva na punararthavya-

<lb>vasāyātmakaṃ–arthābhāvāditi vadan avadheyavacanaḥ syāt |

<lb><p>yattu svapnajñānaṃ svavyavasāyātmakamevetyuktaṃ tadapi na saṃgataṃ tasya sākṣātparaṃparayā vārthavyavasāyātma-

<lb>katvāghaṭanāt | dvividho hi svāpnaḥ satyo'satyaśca tatra satyo devatākṛtaḥ syāt dharmādharmakṛto vā kasyacitsā-

<lb>kṣādvyavasāyātmakaḥ prasiddhaḥ svapnadaśāyāṃ yaddeśakālākāratayārthaḥ pratipannaḥ punarjāgṛddaśāyāmapi taddeśa-

<lb>kālākāratayaiva tasya vyavasīyamānatvāt | kaścitsatyaḥ svapnaḥ paraṃparayārtha–vyavasāyī svapnādhyāyanigadi-

<lb>tārthaprāpakatvāt | taduktaṃ––

<lb><s>yastu paśyati rātryaṃte1 rājānaṃ kujaraṃ hayaṃ |

<lb><s>suvarṇaṃ vṛṣabhaṃ gāṃ ca kuṭaṃbaṃ tasya vardhate || 1 ||

<lb>dhyavat | guṇini guṇasya samavāyāt tayostadbhāva ityapi na satyaṃ samavāyasya kathaṃcidaviśvagbhāvāt anyatya

<lb>vicārāsahatvāt | samityekībhāvenāvāyanamavagamanaṃ hi samavāyaḥ tacca samavāyanaṃ karmasthaṃ samaveyamānatvaṃ

<lb>pratyakṣo'rthaḥ | sa hi bahirdeśasaṃbaddhaḥ pratyakṣamanubhūyate | jñāte tvarthe anumānādavagacchati buddhiriti sāvarabhāṣye

<lb>śravaṇāt | tathā jñānasyārthavat pratyakṣatve karmatvaprasaṃgāt jñānāṃtarasya karaṇasyāvaśyaṃ parikalpanīyatvāt |

<lb>tasya cāpratyakṣatve prathame ko'paritoṣaḥ ? | pratyakṣatve tasyāpi pūrvavatkarmatāpatteḥ karaṇātmano'nyavijñānasya

<lb>parikalpanāyāmanavasthāyā durnivāratvāt | tathaikasya jñānasya karmakaraṇadvayākārapratītivirodhācca na jñānaṃ

<lb>pratyakṣaṃ parīkṣakairanumaṃtavyamiti so'pi na yathārthamīmāṃsakatāmanusartumutsahate jñānasyāpratyakṣatve sarvārthasya

<lb>pratyakṣatvavirodhāt | saṃtānāṃtarajñānenāpi sarvasyārthasya pratyakṣatvaprasaṃgāt | tathā ca na kasyacitkadācidartha-

<lb>pratyāyanasamarthaṃ syāditi kathamatiprasaṃgo na syāt ? | yadi punaḥ saṃbaṃdhādhīnatvāviśeṣe'pi pratyakṣaparokṣārtha

<lb>pratipatteḥ sākṣādasākṣātpratibhāsabhedāt bhedo'bhyupagamyate pramāṇāṃtaratvena tadeṃdriyasvasaṃvedanamānasayogi-

<lb>jñānasyeti kathaṃ pramāṇāṃtaratā na bhavet ? atha pratibhāsaviśeṣe'pi taccaturvidhamapi pratyakṣameva na

<lb>pramāṇāṃtaraṃ tarhi pratyakṣānumānayoḥ pratibhāsabhedepi svaviṣayasaṃbaṃdhāviśeṣātva pramāṇāṃtaratvaṃ mābhūt | yadi

<lb>punaḥ svaviṣayasaṃbaddhatvāviśeṣe'pi pratyakṣānumānayoḥ sāmagrībhedāt pramāṇāṃtaratvamurarīkriyate tadā śābdo-

<lb>pamānādīnāmapi tata eva pramāṇāṃtaratvamurarīkriyatāṃ | yathaiva hi akṣādisāmagrītaḥ pratyakṣaṃ, liṃga-

<lb>sāmagrīto'numānaṃ prabhavatīti tayoḥ sāmigrībhedaḥ | tathāgamaḥ śabdasāmigrītaḥ prabhavati | upamānaṃ sā-

<lb>dṛśyasāmagrītaḥ | arthāpattiśca parokṣārthāvinābhūtārthamātrasāmagryāḥ | pratiṣedhyādhāravastugrahaṇapratiṣedhyasmara-

<lb>ṇasāmagryaścābhāva iti prasiddhaḥ śābdādīnāmapi sāmagrībhedaḥ | tata evākṣajñānādipratyakṣacatuṣṭayasya

<lb>prabhedaprasiddheḥ nahi tasyārthabhedo'sti sākṣātkriyamāṇasyārthasyāviśeṣāt tadvalliṃgaśabdādisāmagrībhedā-

<lb>tparokṣārthaviṣayatvāviśeṣepyanumānāgamādīnāṃ bhedaprasiddhiriti nānumāne'ṃtarbhāvaḥ saṃbhavati | tathā sādhya-

<lb>sādhanasaṃbaṃdhavyāptipratipattau na pratyakṣaṃ samarthaṃ | yāvān kaściddhūmaḥ sa sarvaḥ kālāṃtare deśāṃtare ca pāvaka-

<lb>janmā, anyajanmā vā na bhavati ityetāvato vyāpārān kartumasamarthatvāt | sannihitārthamātrādutpatteravicārakatvāt

<lb>yogipratyakṣaṃ tatra samarthamiti cet na deśakālayogipratyakṣadvayānatikramāt | deśayoginaḥ pratyakṣaṃ vyāpti-

<lb>pratipattau samarthamityayuktaṃ tatrānumanavaiyarthyāt | na hi yogipratyakṣeṇa sākṣātkṛteṣu sādhyasādhanaviśeṣeṣu

<lb>aśeṣeṣu phalavadanumānaṃ | atha sakalayogipratyakṣeṇa vyāptipratipattāvadoṣa iti cenna uktadoṣasyātrāpi tad-

<lb>vasthatvāt | parārthaphalavadanumānamiti cet ? na tasya svārthānumānapūrvakatvāt | svārthānumānābhāve ca yoginaḥ

<lb>kathaṃ parārthānumānaṃ nāma | yadi punaḥ sakalayoginaḥ parānugrahāya pravṛttatvāt parānugrahasya ca śabdātmaka-

<lb>parārthānumānamaṃtareṇa kartumaśakteḥ parārthānumānasiddhiḥ, tasyāśca svārthānumānāsaṃbhave'nutpadyamānatvāt

<lb>svārthānumānasiddhirapi parapratipādanapravṛttasya saṃbhāvyata eveti mataṃ tadā sa yogī svārthānumāne caturārya-

<lb>satyāni niścitya parārthānumānena paraṃ pratipādayan grahītavyāptikamagṛhītavyāptikaṃ vā pratipādayet ? yadi

<lb>gṛhītavyāptikaṃ tadā kutastena gṛhītā vyāptiḥ ? na tāvādiṃdriyasvasaṃvedanamanovijñānaisteṣāṃ tadaviṣaya-

<lb>tvāt | yogipratyakṣeṇa gṛhyate vyāptiḥ pareṇa tasyāpi deśayogitvāt iti cet tarhi yāvatasu sādhyasādhana-

<lb>bhedeṣu yogipratyakṣaṃ deśayoginastāvatsu vyarthamanumānaṃ spaṣṭaṃ pratibhāteśvapi anumāne sakalayoginaḥ sarvatrā-

<lb>numānaprasaṃgāt | samāropavyavacchedārthamapi na tatrānumānaṃ yogipratyakṣaviṣaye samāropānavakāśāt sugata-

<lb>pratyakṣaviṣayavat | tato na gṛhītavyāptikaṃ paraṃ sakalayogī pratipādayitumarhati | nāpyagṛhītavyāptikaṃ

<lb>dhyena vyāptirna pratyakṣataḥ siddhyet pūrvoditadoṣāsakteḥ | parasmādanumānāttatsiddhau kathamanavasthā na syāt ? pratya-

<lb>kṣānupalaṃbhapṛṣṭabhāvino vikalpāt svayamapramāṇakāt sādhyasadhānavyāptisiddhau kimakāraṇaṃ pratyakṣānumānapramā-

<lb>ṇapoṣaṇaṃ kriyate ? mithyājñānādeva pratyakṣānumeyārthasiddhervyāptisiddhivat | tasmādyathā pratyakṣaṃ pramāṇamicchatā

<lb>kalpakenāpi pratyakṣeṇa sākalyena sādhyasādhanasaṃbaṃdhagṛhītumaśakteḥ | sādhyaṃ hi kimagnisāmānyaṃ, agnivi-

<lb>śeṣognisāmānyaviśeṣo vā ? na tāvadagnisāmānyaṃ siddhasādhyatāpatteḥ | nāpyagniviśeṣastasyānanvayāt |

<lb>banhisāmānyaviśeṣasya hi sādhyatve tena dhūmasya saṃbaṃdhaḥ sakaledeśakālavyāpyadhyakṣataḥ kathaṃ siddhyet ?

<lb>tathā tatsaṃbaṃdhāsiddhau ca yatra yatra yadā yadā dhūmopalaṃbhaḥ tatra tatra tadā tadā'gnisāmānyaviśeṣaviṣayamanu-

<lb>mānaṃ nodayamāsādayet | na hyanyathā saṃbaṃdhagrahṇamanyathānumānotthānaṃ nāmātiprasaṃgāt tataḥ saṃbaṃdhajñānaṃ pramā-

<lb>ṇāṃtarameva pratyakṣānumānayostadaviṣayatvāt | yaccoktaṃ pratyakṣaphalatvādūhāpohavijñānasyāpramāṇatvamiti tadapya-

<lb>samyak viśeṣaṇajñānaphalatvādviśeṣyajñānasyāpramāṇatvānuṣaṃgāt hānopādānopekṣābuddhiphalakāraṇatvādviśeṣya-

<lb>jñānasya pramāṇatve tata evohāpohavijñānasya pramāṇatvamastu sarvathā viśeṣābhāvāt | pramāṇaviṣayatvapariśodhakatvā-

<lb>nnohaḥ pramāṇamityapi vārtaṃ pramāṇaviṣayasyāpramāṇena pariṣodhanavirodhāt | tathā tarkaḥ pramāṇaṃ pramāṇaviṣayapa-

<lb>riśodhakatvāt yastu na pramāṇaṃ sa na pramāṇaviṣayapariśodhako dṛṣṭo yathā prameyo'rthaḥ pramāṇaviṣayapariśodhakaśca

<lb>tarkastasmātpramāṇamiti kevalavyatirekiṇānumānenānyathānupapattiniyamaniścayalakṣaṇena tarkasya pramāṇatvasiddheḥ,

<lb>na vaiśeṣikāṇāṃ pramāṇadvayasaṃkhyāniyamaḥ siddhyet | etena dvitricatuḥpaṃcaṣaṭpramāṇavādināṃ pramāṇasaṃkhyā-

<lb>niyamaḥ pratidhvastaḥ saṃkhyānāṃ pratyakṣānumānābhyāmivāgamādapi sādhyasādhanasaṃbaṃdhāsiddheḥ tarkasya tatsiddhini-

<lb>svayamiṣṭatvāt | pratijñārthaikadeśāsiddhatvaṃ sādhanasya syāditi cet kā punaḥ pratijñā tadekadeśo vā yasyā-

<lb>siddhatvaṃ śaṃkyeta ? dharmadharmisasudāyaḥ pratijñā tadekadeśo dharmī heturyathā naśvaraḥ śabdo śabdatvāditi

<lb>tathā sādhyadharmaḥ pratijñaikadeśo yathā naśvaraḥ śabdo naśvaratvāt soyaṃ dvividho pratijñārthaikadeśāsiddhau hetuḥ

<lb>syāditi cet | na dharmiṇo hetutve kasya cidasiddhatānupapatteḥ | yathaiva hi pratyakṣaprayogakāle vādiprativādi

<lb>deśatvenāsiddho dharmiṇo'pyasiddhiprasaṃgāt | kiṃ tarhi ? svarūpeṇa vāsiddha iti na pratijñārthaikadeśāsiddho

<lb>nāma hetvābhāsaḥ saṃbhavatīti kathaṃ prakṛtahetau pratijñārthaikadeśāsiddhatvaṃ samudbhāvayan bhāvitānumānasvabhāvaḥ ? |

<lb>dharmiṇo hetutve'nanvayaprasaṃga iti cet na viśeṣaṃ dharmiṇaṃ kṛtvā sāmānyaṃ hetuṃ bruvatāṃ doṣāsaṃbhavāt | pratyakṣaṃ-

<lb>hi viśeṣarūpaṃ dharmī pratyakṣasāmānyaṃ hetuḥ sa kathamananvayaḥ syāt sakalapratyakṣaviśeṣasya vyāpitvāt | dṛṣṭāṃte

<lb>vardhamāna-hīyamāna-avasthita-anavasthitavikalpāt | sapratipātāpratipātayoratraivāṃtarbhāvāt | saṃkṣepatastu

<lb>trividhaṃ deśāvadhi-paramāvadhi-sarvāvadhibhedāt | tatra deśāvadhijñānaṃ ṣaḍvikalpamapi saṃbhavati paramāvadhijñānaṃ tu

<lb>saṃyamaviśeṣaikārthasamavāyibhavāṃtarāpekṣayānanugāmi pratipātaṃ ca pratyeyaṃ | tadbhavāpekṣayā ca tadanugāmyeva nā-

<lb>nanugāmi | vardhamānameva na hīyamānaṃ | avasthitameva nānavasthitaṃ | apratipātameva napratipātaṃ tathāvidha-

<lb>pratyakṣaṃ kevalajñānaṃ sakalamohakṣayāt sakalajñānadarśanāvaraṇavīryāṃtarāyakṣayācca samudbhūtatvāt sakalavaiśadya

<lb>sadbhāvāt sakalaviṣayatvācca | tadvān kaścitpuruṣaviśeṣo bhavatyeva sunirṇītāsaṃbhadbādhakapramāṇatvāt | tathā

<lb>tītānāgatatamayorapi tathā tadbhāvaprasaṃgāt | kāryasya bhinnadeśasya tu kāraṇatve yuktastadbhāvabhāvaḥ kalaśakuṃ-

<lb>bhakārādivat | kuṃbhakārādiṣu hi bhinnasvadeśeṣu satsu kalaśasya bhāvo'satsu cābhāvasteṣāṃ tatra vyāpārāt |

<lb>kāraṇatvānabhimatasya tu bhinnadeśasya na kārye tadbhāvabhāvo tatra tasyāvyāpārāt atītānāgatavat | sato hi

<lb>kasya citkvacidvyāpāraḥ śreyān na punarasataḥ kharaviṣāṇāderiveti yuktaṃ tato bhinnadeśasyāpi kasyacidekasya

<lb>kārye vyāpriyamāṇasya sahakārikāraṇatvaṃ pratītimanusarati na punarbhinnakālasya pratītyatilaṃghanāt tato na

<lb>kṛttikodayaśakaṭodayayoḥ kāryakāraṇabhāvaḥ samavatiṣṭate vyāpyavyāpakabhāvavat | satyapi tayoḥ kāryakāraṇabhāve

<lb>na hetoḥ pakṣadharmatvaṃ yujyate iti pakṣadharmamaṃtareṇāpi hetorgamakatvasiddherna tallakṣaṇamutprekṣyate | tathā na sapakṣa

<lb>eva sattvaṃ niścitaṃ tadabhāve'pi sarvabhāvānāmanityatve sādhye sattvādeḥ sādhanasya svayaṃ sādhutvasamarthanāt |

<lb>vipakṣe punarasattvameva niścitaṃ sādhyāvinābhāviniyamaniścayarūpameveti tadeva hetoḥ pradhānalakṣaṇamastu kimatra

<lb><p>atha matametatpakṣadharmatvamasiddhatvamasiddhatvavyavacchedārthaṃ sādhanasya lakṣaṇaṃ niścīyate | sapakṣa eva sattvaṃ

<lb>viruddhatvavyavacchedāya | vipakṣe cāsattvaṃ–anekāṃtitvavyavacchittaye | tadaniścaye hetorasiddhatvādidoṣatrayaparihārā-

<lb><p>tadapyaparīkṣitābhidhānaṃ saugatasya hetoranyathānupapattiniyamaniścayādeva doṣatrayaparihārasiddheḥ svayama-

<lb>siddhasyānyathānupapattiniyamaniścayāsaṃbhavāt | anaikāṃtikaviparītārthavat tasya tathopapattiniyamaniścaya-

<lb>rūpatvāt | tasya cāsiddhavyabhicāriṇi viruddhe ca hetāvasaṃbhāvanīyatvāt | rūpatrayasyāvinābhāva-

<lb>niyamaprapaṃcatvāt sādhanalakṣaṇatve tata eva rūpaprapaṃcakasya sādhanalakṣaṇatvamastu | pakṣavyāpakatvānvayavya-

<lb>tirekābādhitaviṣayatvāsatpratipakṣarūpāṇi hi paṃcāpyavinābhāvaniyamaprapaṃca eva bādhitaviṣayasya satpra-

<lb>tipakṣitasya cāvinābhāvaniyamāniścayāt pakṣāvyāpakānanvayāvyatirekavat | na pakṣadharmatve satyeva sā-

<lb>dhanasya siddhatvaṃ yenāsiddhavivekatastattasya lakṣaṇaṃ, apakṣadharmasyāpi siddhatvasamarthanāt | nāpi sapakṣe

<lb>sattve eva viparītārthavivekaḥ sarvānekāṃtātmakatvasādhane sattvādeḥ sapakṣe sattvābhāve'pi viruddhatvābhā-

<lb>vāt parasya sarvānityatvasādhanavat | naca vyatirekamātre satyapi vyabhicāriviveke śyāmatve sādhye-

<lb>tatputratvādervyabhicārasādhanāt vyatirekaviśeṣastu tadevānyathānupapannatvamiti na trīṇi rūpāṇyavinā

<lb>bhāvaniyamaprapaṃcaḥ teṣu satsu hetoranyathānupapattidarśanāt | teṣāṃ tatprapaṃcatve kālākāśādīnāmapi tatpra-

<lb>paṃcatvaprasaktisteṣvapi satsu taddarśanāt | teṣāṃ sarvasādharaṇatvānna heturūpatvamityapi pakṣadharmatvādiṣu samānaṃ

<lb>teṣāmapi sādhāraṇatvāddhetvābhāseṣvapi bhāvāt | tato'sādhāraṇaṃ lakṣaṇamācakṣāṇairanyathānupapannatvameva niyataṃ

<lb>hetulakṣaṇaṃ pakṣīkartavyaṃ | tathoktaṃ––

<lb><p>etena paṃcarūpāṇi hetoravinābhāvaniyamaprapaṃca eva ityetadapāstaṃ satyapyabādhitaviṣayatve satpratipakṣe

<lb>cāvinābhāvaniyamānavalokāt | pakṣavyāpakatvānyayavyatirekavat | sa śyāmastatputratvāditaratatputravat

<lb>ityatra tatputratvasya hetorviṣaye śyāmatve bādhakasya pratyakṣāderabhāvāt avādhitaviṣayatvasiddhāvapi avinā-

<lb>bhāvaniyamāsattvāt aśyāmena tatputreṇa vyabhicārāt | tathā tasya śyāmatvasādhanānumānasya pratipakṣasyāsa-

<lb>ttvāt asatpratipakṣatve satyapi vyabhicārātsādhanasya tadabhāvaḥ pratipattavyaḥ | tadatraivaṃ vaktavyaṃ––

<lb>kṣaṇasya prayogo nivāryate eveti prayogaparipāṭyāḥ pratipādyānurodhataḥ parānugrahapravṛttairabhyupagamāt | tathā cā-

<lb>bhyadhāyi kumāranaṃdibhaṭṭārakaiḥ––

<lb><s>anyathānupapattyekalakṣaṇaṃ liṃgamaṃgyate

<lb><s>prayogaparipāṭī tu pratipādyānurodhataḥ || 1 || iti

<lb><p>tacca sādhanaṃ ekalakṣaṇaṃ sāmanyādekavidhamapi viśeṣato'tisaṃkṣepāddvividhaṃ vidhisādhanaṃ saṃkṣepāstrividhaṃ-

<lb>mabhidhīyate kāryaṃ kāraṇasya, kāraṇaṃ kāryasya, akāryakāraṇamakāryakāraṇasyeti prakārāṃtarasyātraivāṃtarbhāvāt |

<lb>tatra kāryaṃ hetuḥ, agniratra dhūmāt iti kāryakāryāderatraivāṃtargatatvāt | kāraṇaṃ hetuḥ––astyatra chāyā chatrāt

<lb>iti kāraṇakāraṇāderatrānupraveśānnārthātaratvaṃ | na cānukūlatvamātramatyakṣaṇaprāptaṃ vā kāraṇaṃ liṃgamucyate yena

<lb>pratibaṃdhavaikalyasaṃbhavādvyabhicāri syāt | dvitīyakṣaṇe kāryasya pakṣīkaraṇādanumānānarthakatvaṃ vā kāryāvinā-

<lb>bhāviniyamatayā niścitasyānumānakālaprāptasya kāraṇasya viśiṣṭasya liṃgatvāt | akāryakāraṇaṃ caturvidhaṃ––

<lb>vyāpyaṃ sahacaraṃ pūrvacaraṃ, uttaracaraṃ ceti | tatra vyāpyaliṃgaṃ vyāpakasya yathā sarvamanekāṃtātmakaṃ sattvāditi

<lb>iti, uttarottaracarametenaiva saṃgṛhyate tadetatsādhyasya vidhau sādhanaṃ ṣaḍvidhamuktaṃ | pratiṣedhe tu pratiṣedhyasya viruddhaṃ

<lb>kāryaṃ viruddhaṃ kāraṇaṃ viruddhākāryakāraṇaṃ ceti | tatra viruddhakāryaliṃgaṃ-nāstyatra śītasparśo dhūmāt iti śīta

<lb>sparśena hi viruddho vanhiḥ tasya kāryaṃ dhūma iti viruddhakāraṇaṃ | nāsya puṃso'satyamasti samyagjñānāt iti viruddhaṃ

<lb>hyasatyena satyaṃ tasya kāraṇaṃ samyagjñānaṃ yathārthajñānaṃ rāgadveṣarahitaṃ tatkutaścitsuktābhidhānādeḥ prasiddhyat

<lb>satyaṃ sādhayati | tacca siddhyadasatyaṃ pratiṣedhayati iti | viruddhākāryakāraṇaṃ caturvidhaṃ–viruddhavyāpyaṃ viruddhasaha-

<lb>mithyājñānena hi samyagjñānaṃ viruddhaṃ tatsahacaraṃ samyagdarśanamiti | viruddhapūrvacaraṃ nodeṣyati muhūrtāṃte śaṃkaṭaṃ

<lb>revatyudayāt | śakaṭodayaviruddho hyaśvanyudayaḥ tatpūrvacaro revatyudayaḥ | viruddhottaracaraṃ–muhūrtāt prāṅgodagādbharaṇiḥ

<lb>puṣpodayāditi | bharaṇyudayaviruddho hi punarvasūdayaḥ taduttaracaraḥ puṣpodaya iti | tānyetāni sākṣātpratiṣedhya-

<lb>viruddhakāryādīni liṃgāni vidhidvāreṇa pratiṣedhasādhanāni ṣaḍabhihitāni | paraṃparayā tu kāraṇaviruddhakāryaṃ vyāpa-

<lb>kaviruddhakāryaṃ kāraṇavyāpakaviruddhakāryaṃ vyāpakakāraṇaviruddhakāryaṃ kāraṇaviruddhakāraṇaṃ vyāpakaviruddhakāraṇaṃ kāra-

<lb>ṇavyāpakaviruddhakāraṇaṃ vyāpakakāraṇaviruddhakāraṇaṃ ceti tathā kāraṇaviruddhavyāpyādīni kāraṇaviruddhacahacarā-

<lb>dīni ca yathāpratīti vaktavyāni | tatra kāraṇaviruddhakāryaṃ–nāstyasya himajanitaromaharṣādiviśeśo dhūmāt

<lb>iti pratiṣedhyasya hi romaharṣādiviśeṣasya kāraṇaṃ himaṃ tadviruddho'gniḥ tatkāryaṃ dhūma iti | vyāpakaviruddhakāryaṃ

<lb>nāstyatra śītasāmānyavyāptaḥ śītasparśaviśeṣo dhūmāt iti śītasparśaviśeṣasya hi niṣedhyasya vyāpakaṃ śī-

<lb>tasāmānyaṃ tadviruddho'gniḥ tasya kāryaṃ dhūma iti | kāraṇavyāpakaviruddhakāryaṃ nāstyatra himatvavyāptahimaviśe-

<lb>ṣajanitaromaharṣādiviśeṣo dhūmāt iti romaharṣādiviśeṣasya hi kāraṇaṃ himaviśeṣastasya vyāpakaṃ himatvaṃ

<lb>tadviruddhogniḥ tatkāryaṃ dhūma iti | vyāpakakāraṇaviruddhakāryaṃ––nāstyatra śītasparśaviśeṣastadvyāpakaśītaspa-

<lb>rśamātrakāraṇahimaviruddhāgnikāryadhūmāditi śītasparśaviśeṣasya hi vyāpakaṃ śītasparśamātraṃ tasya kāraṇaṃ himaṃ

<lb>tadviruddhognistatkāryaṃ dhūma iti | kāraṇaviruddhakāraṇaṃ–nāstyasya mithyācaraṇaṃ tattvārthopadeśagrahaṇāt mi-

<lb>thyācaraṇasya hi kāraṇaṃ mithyājñānaṃ tadviruddhaṃ tattvajñānaṃ tasya kāraṇaṃ tattvārthopadeśagrahaṇaṃ | tattvārtho-

<lb>padeśaśravaṇe satyapi kasya cittatvajñānāsaṃbhavād grahaṇavacanaṃ | tattvārthānāṃ śraddhānapūrvakaṃ–avadhāraṇaṃ hi

<lb>grahaṇamiṣṭaṃ, anyathāsya grahaṇābhāsatvāt | mithyācaraṇasya vātra nāstitā sādhyate na punaranācaraṇasya

<lb>tattvārthopadeśagrahaṇādutpannatattvajñānasyāpyasaṃyatasamyagdṛṣṭeścāritrāsaṃbhavāt––anācārasya prasiddheḥ | na tu mi-

<lb>thyācaraṇamapyasya saṃbhavati tattvajñānavirodhāt tena saha tasyānavasthānāt iti | tathā vyāpakaviruddhakāraṇaṃ

<lb>liṃgaṃ–nāstyasyātmani mithyājñānaṃ tattvārthopadeśagrahaṇāt iti ātmani mithyājñānaviśeṣasya vyāpakaṃ mithyā-

<lb>dvāviṃśatiprakāramapi bhūtamabhūtasya gamakamanyathānupapannatvaniyamaniścayalakṣaṇatvāt pratipattavyaṃ | bhūtaṃ bhūtasya

<lb>prayojakaṃ kāryādi ṣaṭprakāraṃ pūrvamuktaṃ | taditthaṃ vidhimukhena vidhāyakaṃ-pratiṣedhamukhena pratiṣedhakaṃ ca liṃgama-

<lb>bhidhāya sāṃprataṃ pratiṣedhamukhena vidhāyakaṃ pratiṣedhakaṃ ca sādhanamabhidhīyate tatrābhūtaṃ bhūtasya vidhāyakaṃ-yathā–

<lb>astyasya prāṇino vyādhiviśeṣo nirāmayaceṣṭānupalabdheriti | tathā––asti sarvathaikāṃtavādināmajñānādi-

<lb>rdoṣaḥ yuktiśāstrāviruddhavacanābhāvāt iti astyasya munerāptatvaṃ visaṃvādakatvābhāvāt | abhūdetasya tāla-

<lb>phalasya patanakarma vṛṃtasaṃyogābhāvāt iti vahudhā dṛṣṭavyaṃ | tathaivābhūtamabhūtasya pratiṣedhasya pratiṣedhakaṃ yathā–

<lb>nāstyatra śavaśarīre buddhirvyāpāravyāhārākāraviśeṣānupalabdheriti kāryānupalabdhiḥ | na saṃtyasya praśamādīni

<lb>tattvārthaśraddhānānupalabdheriti kāraṇānupalabdhiḥ | nāstyatra śiṃśapā vṛkṣānupalabdheriti vyāpakānupalabdhiḥ |

<lb>nāstyasya tattvajñānaṃ samyagdarśanābhāvāt iti sahacarānupalabdhiḥ | na bhaviṣyati muhūrtāṃte śakaṭodayaḥ kṛtti-

<lb>kodayānupalabdheriti pūrvacarānupalabdhiḥ | nodagādbharaṇirmuhūrtātprākkṛttikodayānupalabdheriti uttaracarānupa-

<lb>labdhiḥ | eva paraṃparayā kāraṇādyanupalabdhiḥ vyāpakavyāpakānupalabdhyādikamapi bahudhā pratiṣedhadvāreṇa

<lb><p>nanu cāduṣṭatvaṃ doṣarahitatvaṃ kāraṇasya tacca kvaciddoṣaviruddhasya guṇasya sadbhāvāt | tathā manvādismṛ-

<lb>tivacane kvaciddoṣakāraṇabhāvāt | yathā codanāyāṃ taduktaṃ––

<lb><s>śabde doṣodbhavastāvadvaktradhīnamiti sthitaṃ

<lb><s>tadabhāvaḥ kvacittāvadguṇavadvaktṛkatvataḥ || 1 ||

<lb><s>tadguṇairapakṛṣṭānāṃ śabde saṃkrāṃtyasaṃbhavāt

<lb><s>yadvā vakturabhāvena na syurdoṣā nirāśrayāḥ || 2 ||

<lb><p>tadapyasaraṃ sarvatra guṇābhāvasyaiva doṣavattvāt, guṇasadbhāvasyaiva cādoṣapratīterabhāvasya bhāvāṃtarasvabhāva-

<lb>tvasiddheḥ, anyathā pramāṇaviṣayatvavirodhāt | guṇavadvaktṛkatvasya hi doṣarahitasya vaktṛkatvasya saṃpratyayaḥ kathama-

<lb>nyathā guṇadoṣayoḥ sahānavasthānaṃ yujyeta ? rāgadveṣamohādivakturdoṣāvitathābhidhānahetavaḥ | tadviruddhāśca vairā-

<lb>gyakṣamātattvāvabodhāstadabhāvātmakāḥ satyābhidhānahetavo guṇā iti parīkṣakajanamanasi vartate naca manvādayaḥ

<lb>smṛtiśāstrāṇāṃ praṇetāro guṇavaṃtasteṣāṃ tādṛśaguṇābhāvāt | nirdoṣavedaparādhīnavacanatvātteṣāṃ guṇavattvamitya-

<lb>pyasaṃbhāvanīyaṃ vedasya guṇavattvāsiddheḥ puruṣasya guṇāśrayasyābhāvāt | yathaiva hi doṣavān vedānnivartamāno

<lb>nirdoṣatāmasya sādhayet tathāsau guṇavānapi–aguṇavattāmiti na vedo guṇavānnāma | yadi punarapauruṣeyatvameva

<lb>guṇastadānādimlecchavyavahārasyāpi guṇavattvaṃ–apauruṣeyatvāviśeṣāt |

<lb><s>nāduṣṭā codanā puṃso'sattvādguṇavataḥ sadā

<lb><s>tadvyākhyātuḥ pravakturvā mlekṣādivyavahāravat || 1 ||

<lb><s>tayā yajjanitaṃ jñānaṃ tannāduṣṭanimittajaṃ

<lb><s>siddhaṃ yena pramāṇaṃ syāt paramāgamabodhavat || 2 ||

<lb><s>vedasya poruṣeyasyocchinnasya cirakālataḥ

<lb><s>sarvajñena vinā kaścinnoddhartātīṃdriyārthadṛk || 3 ||

<lb><s>syādvādināṃ tu sarvajñasaṃtānaḥ syātprakāśakaḥ

<lb><s>paramāgamasaṃtānasyocchinnasya kathaṃcana || 4 ||

<lb><s>sarvabhāṣākubhāṣāśca tadvatsarvārthavedibhiḥ

<lb><s>prakāśyate dhvanisteṣāṃ sarvabhāṣāsvabhāvakaḥ || 5 ||

<lb><s>tatpramāṇaṃ śrutajñānaṃ parokṣaṃ siddhamaṃjasā

<lb><s>aduṣṭakāraṇodbhūteḥ pratyakṣavaditi sthitaṃ || 6 ||

<lb><p>tataḥ sūktaṃ pratyakṣaṃ parokṣaṃ ceti dve eva pramāṇe pramāṇāṃtarāṇāṃ sakalānāmapyatra saṃgrahāt iti saṃkhyā-

<lb>vipratipattinirākaraṇamanavadyaṃ svarūpavipratipattinirākaraṇavat |

<lb><p>viṣayavipratipattinirākaraṇārthaṃ punaridamabhidhīyate––dravyaparyāyātmakaḥ pramāṇāviṣayaḥ pramāṇaviṣayatvānya-

<lb>thānupapatteḥ pratyakṣaviṣayeṇa svalakṣaṇena, anumānādiviṣayeṇa ca sāmānyena hetorvyabhicāra iti na maṃtavyaṃ

<lb>tathāpratītyabhāvāt | na hi pratyakṣataḥ svalakṣaṇaṃ paryāyamātraṃ sanmātramivopalabhāmahe | nāpyanumānādeḥ sāmā-

<lb>nyadravyamātraṃ viśeṣamātramiva pratipadyemahi sāmānyaviśeṣātmano dravyaparyāyātmakasya jātyaṃtarasyopalabdheḥ

<lb>pravartamānasya ca tatprāpteḥ anyathārthakriyānupapatteḥ | na hi svalakṣaṇamarthakriyāsamarthaṃ kramayaugapadyavirodhāt

<lb>sāmānyavat | naca tatra kramayaugapadye saṃbhavataḥ pariṇāmābhāvāt | kramākramayoḥ pariṇāmena vyāptatvāt sarva-

<lb>thāpyapariṇāminaḥ kṣaṇikasya nityasya ca tadvirodhasiddheḥ prasiddhe ca sāmānyaviśeṣātmani vastuni tadaṃśamātre

<lb>viśeṣe sāmānye vā pravarttamānaṃ kathaṃ pramāṇaṃ nāma pramāṇasya yathāvastitavastugrahaṇalakṣaṇatvāt tadekadeśagrā-

<lb>hiṇaḥ sāpekṣasya sunayatvānnirapekṣasya durṇayatvāt | tata eva na tadviṣayeṇānekāṃtaḥ sādhanasya syāt | tatra

<lb>pramāṇaviṣayatvasya hetorapravṛtteḥ | ataḥsiddho dravyaparyāyātmārthaḥ pramāṇasyeti tadvipratipattinivṛttiḥ |

<lb><p>phalavipratipattinivṛttyarthaṃ pratipādyate–pramāṇātphalaṃ kathaṃcidbhinnamabhinnaṃ ca pramāṇaphalatvānyathānupapatteḥ |

<lb>hānopādonopekṣābuddhirūpeṇa pramāṇaphalenānekāṃta iti na śaṃkanīyaṃ tasyāpyekapramātrātmanā pramāṇādabheda-

<lb>siddheḥ pramāṇapariṇatasyaivātmanaḥ phalapariṇāmapratīteḥ, anyathā saṃtānāṃtaravatpramāṇaphalabhāvavirodhāt | sākṣā-

<lb>dajñānanivṛttilakṣaṇena pramāṇādabhinnena pramāṇaphalena vyabhicāra ityapyaparīkṣitābhidhānaṃ tasyāpi kathaṃcitpra-

<lb>māṇādbhedaprasiddheḥ pramāṇaphalayorniruktisādhanavirodhāt | karaṇasādhanaṃ hi pramāṇaṃ svārthanirṇītau sādhakatama-

<lb>tvāt | svārthanirṇītirajñānanivṛttiḥ phalaṃ bhāvasādhanaṃ tatsādhyatvāt | etena kartṛsādhanāt pramāṇātkathaṃci-

<lb>dbhedaḥ pratipāditaḥ tasya svārthanirṇītau svataṃtratvāt | svataṃtrasya ca kartṛtvāt svārthanirṇītestu ajñānanivṛtti-

<lb>svabhāvāyāḥ kriyātvāt | naca kriyākriyāvato'rthāṃtaramevānarthāṃtarameva vā kriyākriyāvadbhāvavirodhāt | bhāva-

<lb>sādhanātpramāṇādajñānanivṛttirabhinnaiveti,ayuktaṃ pramāturudāsīnāvasthāyāmavyāpriyamāṇasya pramāṇaśakterbhāvasādhana

<lb>pramāṇasya vyavasthāpitatvāt tasyājñānanivṛttiphalatvāsaṃbhavāt | svārthavyavasitau vyāpriyamāṇaṃ hi pramāṇama-

<lb>jñānanivṛttiṃ sādhayet nānyathā atiprasaṃgāt | tataḥ sūktaṃ––

<lb>paramārthataḥ sveṣṭasiddhivirodhāt tataḥ pāramārthikapramāṇaṃ phalaṃ ceṣṭasiddhilaṇamabhyanujñātavyaṃ | tataḥsarvapuruṣārtha-

<lb><s>iti pramāṇasya parīkṣya lakṣaṇaṃ viśeṣasaṃkhyāviṣayaṃ phalaṃ tataḥ

<lb><s>prabudhya tattvaṃ dṛḍhaśuddhadṛṣṭayaḥ prayāṃtu vidyāphalamiṣṭamuccakaiḥ || 1 ||
