Disregard spaces*
The search operates on electronic texts, which are not fully standardized with regard to the segmentation of syntactic elements: Two forms may be separated by a space (e.g.,
arthād eva) or not (
arthādeva). In the standard setting of this search the program looks for matches with or without a space at any position of the search expression.
Deactivate this option in order to use spaces in the search expression.
Example: If you are looking for occurrences of "naikāntika", the results will also contain numerous occurrences of a"naikāntika". If you deactivate the option "Disregard spaces" and place a space before the search expression (" naikāntika"), the result are minimized.
Orthographic variations*
This program operates on electronic texts in which the spelling of the respective editors is maintained. This results in corpus-width graphematic variations of single phonems, for instance, in the spelling of nasals (
samanta versus
samaṃta). In the standard setting, the program compares the characters of the search expression against defined lists of orthographic variations and procures also those matches that comply to the variations.
See "Search Explanation: Character Variations" for the lists of variations, which have been defined up to date.
Deactivate this option, to minimize your results.
Example: In the standard setting, if you look for the form vādaṃ, the program will also procure matches for vādam or vādan. If you deactivate the option "Orthographic variations" the results will be minimized.
Sandhi variations*
In the standard setting, the program looks for some euphonic variations at the begining and the end of the "words" of the search expression, i.e., the elements that are separated by spaces. If you look, e.g., for
etat uktam the program will find the euphonic correct
etad uktam beside
etad uktaṃ or
aitad uktaṃ.
See "Search Explanation: Character Variations" for the variations, which are defined up to date.
Allow range*
Enter a number between 1 and 1000 to allow a respective interval of arbitrary characters between the elements segmented by spaces.
Example: If the standard 0 is set with this option, a search for nanu iti will hardly yield a result. If the option allow range is set with the number 100, several results will appear, among them dialogical elements that begin with the word nanu and end with the word iti.
Unset the option "disregard spaces", if you are interested only in those matches that begin with the word nanu.
If you enter more than one term in the search field, the specified range will be applied to each interval. If the option is set and nanu samavāya iti is entered, the search will result, amongst others, in matches that beginn with nanu, contain samavāya and end with iti.
Length of displayed context*
Modify the number of unicode characters that are displayed to the left and to the right of a found match. The minimum is 1, the maximum is 200 characters to the left and to the right. If you enter a smaller of greater number, the option will be set back to the standard 20.
The option is useful, if you want to read the wider context of the match.
Please note that the display of the search result can slow down considerably, if you add a high number of context length to a high number of results.
Results per page*
The number of result pages is indicated after the displayed results. Enter here the number of results to be displayed on every result page.
The speed of the display of the search results depends on the speed of your internet connection. Modify the number of results accordingly.
